COLUMN: Library Focus - Send your letters to Santa, kids

— The season is truly upon us now with all the nonstop social obligations and chores that seem to go with the package. Take a break from the madness with a sojourn in the stacks where you can enjoy some tasteful Christmas décor without the music or the marketing mayhem. Or take advantage of our many programs, projects and resources that can make your holiday just a bit more handmade and from the heart.

Hurry to catch the Santa Express

Our Santa Express mailbox is back waiting for young patrons to drop off those special notes to the big man at the North Pole. Drop off your letters by 5 p.m. Dec. 16 and be sure to include a return address so the elves can answer before the big night.

Season’s teachings

Make your holiday a little easier and more festive while you continue mastering important computer skills. This month’s classes (held at 1:30 p.m.) include: Playing Computer Music Files on Dec. 19. This class is limited to 10 hands-on participants, so be sure to make your reservation early. Sign up online or call 635-5631 to register.

Mystery Readers’ Club

Deborah Knott and her new husband tackle several mysterious deaths while preparing for the family holiday celebrations. The group will meet to discuss “Christmas Mourning,” by Margaret Maron at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

Season’s greetings

Join Missy Shipman at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, as she helps you put a personal stamp on the season. Register online or call 635-5631; $15.

Tech help drop-in

Master your iPad, iPhone, ereader etc. with a little help from your friends here at the library. Every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, librarians will help you with your laptop, mobile device, ereader or tablet. No registration needed.

Sweet decorations

Here is a chance to make your very own gingerbread dream house at this program for kids in third through sixth grades (with an adult) from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 14. We will provide the basics (gingerbread and frosting glue) but bring a bag of assorted candy to decorate your house to your personal taste. Register online or call 635-5631.
