COLUMN: Library Focus - Stock up for the holiday break at your library

— Here we are in the final countdown. It’s time to finish the shopping, wrap the presents and stock the fridge.

On the other hand, it may be time to escape the hustle and find a quiet refuge. Whatever you plan for the week the library is here to lend a hand. Stop in for a breather or stock up on DVDs to keep the family out of your hair while you get ready. We even have Christmas music and books full of ideas for last minute craft ideas.

Think you might get an mp3 player, ereader, laptop or tablet this year? Make sure you have a library card and a pin number and you can visit us even when our doors are closed to place holds, download music files or electronic books (print and audio) or use our magazine and newspaper databases to investigate the world while the relatives are still in tryptophan recovery mode.

One more Wednesday

On pins and needles

Need some encouragement to get that project done in time for Christmas giving? Join one of our regular sewing and needlecraft groups to help push you over the finish line. Do you hear what I hear?

Our December Open Mike is not always strictly Christmas music but chances are you’ll catch a carol or two if you join the crew at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, to kick off our 11th year of mischief and merriment with our hosts Harry and Merlyn. Take the opportunity to play a tune, tell a story, do a jig or just listen – anything could happen! Performer sign-in begins at 6:30 p.m.
