Cazenovia Rotary makes improvements

— Cazenovia Rotarians are excited about the recent community improvements they helped to complete over the past month. Advancements made to the local area include a resurfaced basketball court at Rotary Park, a new fishing pier and further landscape improvements made at 24 Nelson St.

On Sept. 30, Galen Okoniewski, a Rotary Youth Leadership Award winner and native of Cazenovia, coordinated a “Cazenovia Community Connects” event, which brought community members together to enjoy the newly-resurfaced basketball court at Rotary Park on Burton Street. As part of his Rotary Youth Leadership Project, Okoniewski oversaw the installation of a world-famous “Okie Court” at Rotary Park.

David Martellock, a Cazenovia native Boy Scout working towards his Eagle Scout badge, coordinated the installation of the handicapped-accessible fishing pier located behind the Cazenovia Public Library on Chittenango Creek. The pier is open to the public and should be completed in the near future.

Cazenovia Rotary gladly contributed to both projects, which helped further a long-standing objective of Rotary International: community improvement. Cazenovia Rotary would also like to recognize and thank the Cazenovia community for their direct contributions to these two students, which helped make both projects possible.

In October, the Cazenovia Rotary Club made further landscaping improvements at the senior living housing complex located at 24 Nelson St. The club donated more plants, as well as their time, to make the improvements. Cazenovia Rotary hopes that the October improvements, combined with the raised planter built in August, will help improve the communal living environment for the residents.
