Pewter Spoon Café baristas prepare orders while customers eat lunch. The new business, which is located at 87 Albany St. and owned by Pat Carmeli, opened on Friday, Oct. 5 in Cazenovia.
Cazenovia The Pewter Spoon, Cazenovia’s newest café located at 87 Albany St., opened Friday, Oct. 5 and has already seen a number of curious locals visit as customers. The space is welcoming, the food is enticing and the coffee is the pride of Central New York.
The Pewter Spoon Café exclusively brews Gimme! Coffee, which began as a small coffee company in Ithaca and has spread across the state. The brand is known for its quality, and has a following among discerning coffee drinkers.
The café offers a wide variety of sandwiches, paninis, salads and soups, with many options for vegetarians. To go along with the coffee, lattes, cappuccinos and tea, there are freshly-baked goods made either in-house or at the homes of one of the young baristas behind the counter.
The café is located near the center of the village, just east of the Linklaen House on the same block. It shares a front door with Realty USA, which is where the café’s owner, Pat Carmeli, works as a realtor and where inspiration for the café first struck. “I had been wanting to do something, and when the space opened up, it just worked out perfectly,” she said.
After a cancer scare earlier this year, Carmeli decided she would like to own and run her own business, and began actively seeking opportunities in Cazenovia. Her aim was to create a place for people to come together.
“I wanted to create a place of community discourse,” Carmeli said. When the space next door to her office became available, she decided her opportunity had come.
Now, only a week into operating the café, Carmeli is optimistic.
“I couldn’t be happier with the way things have gone.” Carmeli said. Customers have been coming in regularly to see what the café has to offer, and business has been good so far.
